Canadian Politician and Member of Parliament for the Riding of Papineau, QC
Justin Trudeau made a brief appearance last year (April 24, 2009) at the Ecole Secondaire Lacombe Composite High School in Lacombe, Alberta. He left the modest audience inspired by his attitude, energy and passion for his country and the potential of its youth.
Born: December 25, 1971
Lineage: Eldest son of the late former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau and Margaret Sinclair Trudeau Kemper
Career: Elected as Liberal MP October 14, 2009 for the riding of Papineau
Passions: the environment, engaging Canadian youth in politics, the protection of our Canadian Heritage including Nature Conservancy of Canada and the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, Katimavik – Canada’s National Youth Service program, husband to Sophie Grégoire Trudeau and father to Xavier James and Ella Grace Margaret
Education and Credentials: Bachelor of Arts in Literature at McGill University, Bachelor of Education from the University of British Columbia, taught French and other subjects for numerous schools and boards, supplemented his activism with graduate work in Environmental Geography at McGill University; also involved with the Canadian Avalanche Foundation advocating intelligent risk-taking and safety awareness while encouraging people to discover the Canadian wilderness.
Hot Topic: Justin is deeply concerned with amendments to the Navigable Waters Protection Act and the potentially adverse affects facing Canadians ability to enjoy their waterways as they have for generations. He strongly advocates the need to revisit the entire Environmental Assessment Act to ensure that is is comprehensive, robust and efficient.
Says Trudeau, “The right to explore this great land through its rivers, lakes and streams is one that has been passed down through the ages. I, for one, intend to ensure that my children and their children don’t have that right taken away.”
Why we’ll watch Justin: Young, charismatic and a staunch supporter of a culturally diverse Canada (not to mention deeply devoted to this country), Justin Trudeau will ignite a dormant interest in politics and wipe away apathy as he reaches out to build trust among a new generation of Canadians. Love or hate Trudeau-mania, mark my words, political grooming is afoot. Prime Minister of Canada is not too lofty an ambition.
