My name is Kim Bérubé and I am the energy behind 'Real Woman on the Run' magazine and website.
I am a wife and mother of four, ages 5 to 15 and I currently work full time. Like most women in the world, I am also committed to other endeavors; both business and volunteer in nature. And now I have this passionate new calling: 'Real Woman on the Run.'
A little history here:
I am a magazine junkie. I have been for a long time. I love the photos, the fashion, the articles, the information. I love the shiny pages. I love to tear out those pages and post them on my fridge when I find something inspiring and interesting. I sometimes buy 4 - 6 publications per month, and read them front to back. See?...I told you... I LOVE magazines!
One day while in the grocery check out line, I couldn't help but notice the volume of purely unimportant and crazy-making story headlines!
Who's the father of So-and-So's baby? When will we know what she died of? Why did she shave her hair off? Why aren't they wearing panties when they get their photos taken in public?
Then you have the marriage breakups, the interchangeable boyfriends, the eating disorders, the addictions, the bad behavior, the over-seas adoptions and the list goes on and on and on...
Lose ten pounds by tomorrow. Look 5 pounds thinner instantly. 25 simple steps to earthshattering orgasms. What you should be wearing.... What you shouldn't be wearing.... What body type are you? Learn the moves to drive your man wild. Hot trendy colors right now. Guess who has cellulite? And we have the pictures to prove it!
I am such a sucker. I have read it all, seen the photos, followed the gossip, bought the T-Shirt. And now I am tired. I'm tired of celebrity chaos, mixed up priorities, bad publicity, anorexic former child stars, spoiled heiresses, money-hungry exes looking for half, and highly publicized two day weddings and 'shocking' splits and divorces
SO, I VOTE FOR CHANGE!
Ghandi said: 'You must be the change you wish to see in the world.' I wish to see less of the women in the tabloids and more of the women that live next door to me. I want to read about women raising families, studying hard in school, making relationships work, building better communities, leading those around them, and busting their butts to leave the world better than they found it.
I wish to see women recognizing themselves and each other as the force that can heal the world. I wish to see our daughters (and sons) raised with a feeling of pride for the women leaders around them. More than that, I wish for our daughters to aspire to be real women and not emulate the 'stars' in the tabloids.
I KNOW I am not the only real woman who feels this way. I KNOW because I have had many conversations with co-workers, sisters, friends and aquaintances who feel the way I do about this subject of Real Women vs. media madness.
My sweet friends, I give you my solemn promise that you will not find media frenzy here. I will do my best to ensure that when you visit, either by magazine or by website, you will feel as though you've come to see a good friend. A little laughter, a little kindness, and lots of love and encouragement.
Thanks for checking in and please feel free to contact me via email at any time.
Warmest regards,
Kim Bérubé, Owner and Publisher REAL WOMAN ON THE RUN
