Saturday May 29th marks the 4th Annual PASSIONATE FORWARD event designed to raise money for the CAWES for Kids Campaign and the Central Alberta Crisis Centre. (Follow the CA Crisis Centre on Facebook Here!)
Like many women(men and children), Skye Wikjord, 36, experienced childhood sexual abuse at the hands of someone she knew. While the current statistics state that 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 5 boys are the victims of sexual abuse and 95% of the abusers are someone they know, Skye thinks these numbers are frugal. ”I believe this is a silent epidemic; that there is so much shame attached to being a victim, that many stay quiet thinking, ‘maybe it was my fault.’”
Skye developed the idea for PASSIONATE FORWARD as a way of raising awareness and fundraising for the Central Alberta Crisis Centre and The CAWES for KIDS Campaign.
CAWES for Kids will be Canada’s First Healing Centre, where children can play, learn, heal and feel. Tara Heppell, Fundraising Coordinator for the Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter, has assured Skye that all funds raised at the 2010 Passionate Forward Gala will be given specifically to CAWES for Kids.
The event takes place Saturday, May 29, 2010 at the Harvard Park Centre in Springbrook, AB, 10 minutes south of Red Deer on highway 2A.
The evening includes entertainment, a great meal, bucket draws, a silent auction and diner and dancing plus key note speaker Dr. Jane Simington, Ph.D presenting, ‘Finding the Joy in Every Moment’.
Entertainment includes: Live music: Laws of Attraction, Joelle Gilmour, Kick Start Band & Randi Boulton as well as Championship Country Dancers and The Belley Elegance Dance Troupe.
This is not just a ladies night. Healthy communities and healthy families have healthy and supportive men included in them too!
